About

About Me
I’m Robert J—an ordinary working man who learned, the long way round, how to build financial stability and passive income from scratch. Today, I write personal finance books that help everyday people take control of their money, increase their income, and create the freedom to choose the life they want.
But none of this started in a classroom or a bank boardroom. It started on the shop floor.
From Marine Engines to Factory Floors
I finished my UK state education back in 1974, graduating from Exeter College after completing an engineering course. That qualification opened the door to my first job in a boatyard, servicing marine engines. It was hands-on, honest work—the kind of job where you learn quickly that skill and effort matter.
Then the economy turned. Our department closed. And like many people in Britain at the time, I found myself starting again.
I spent the following years working in factories, doing the kind of shift work that teaches you resilience, teamwork, and the value of every pound you earn. Later, after another redundancy, I moved into facilities management.
Next Stage
Due to passage of time my academic qualifications were looking a bit dated. So in 1996 I completed a HND course in Business and Finance at the University of Plymouth. This was more practical than theoretical with projects on Market Research, preparing of business plans and financial statements used by upper management to make company affecting decisions. I could have gone on another year and converted the HND into an MBA but chose not to as it would have meant an 80 mile round trip to another campus.
A Unique View Behind the Scenes
Facilities work gave me access to places most people never see—restricted areas in office blocks, research facilities, and industrial sites. When you’re the person responsible for keeping a building running, you end up talking to everyone: engineers, cleaners, scientists, executives, and shop floor staff.
And no matter where I went, I heard the same thing:
“I’m working hard, but my income isn’t going anywhere.”
“I want to get ahead, but I don’t know where to start.”
These conversations stayed with me. They were honest, raw, and familiar—because I’d felt the same way.
The Turning Point: Learning Money the Hard Way
Over the years, I began researching investing, saving, and money management. Not the flashy stuff—just the practical, realistic strategies that ordinary people can actually use.
I applied what I learned. Slowly at first. Then consistently.
And things changed.
I started earning passive income from investments. I found higher-rate savings opportunities. I built financial stability that didn’t depend on overtime, luck, or the economy behaving itself.
It wasn’t magic. It was method.
Why I Write
In 2025, after decades of real-world experience and years of helping colleagues understand their own finances, I decided to write a series of personal finance books.
My goal is simple:
To give ordinary working people the tools to increase their income—no matter where they’re starting from.
My books break everything down step by step. No jargon. No judgement. No unrealistic promises. Just clear, practical guidance that helps readers take the income they have today and grow it over time.
With ongoing action, anyone can reach the point where work becomes a choice—not a necessity.
My Mission
I believe financial knowledge should be accessible, empowering, and grounded in real life. I’ve lived through redundancies, economic downturns, and the uncertainty that comes with relying on a single pay check.
If you’ve ever felt stuck, underpaid, or unsure how to move forward, I understand—because I’ve been there.
And I’m here to help you build something better.
